Eco-friendly sustainable fashions, created by designers from the Pacific Northwest region and across the globe, once again became the major point of discussion at the just concluded edition of Portland Fashion Week.

The Oregon event, which is entirely dedicated to young and seasoned ethical fashion designers, opened with Spring/Summer 2014 catwalk shows staged by Columbia Sportswear and men’s innergarment manufacturer UnderU4Men.

All proceeds from the first day shows went to support the Basic Rights Oregon, a non-profit organization dedicated to secure the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Oregonians.

Portland designer Eliza Harrison opted to showcase her bondage and lace frill based range Sex Toy, which was originally designed to challenge the stereotypical perspectives on gender issues, while the Lifetime Channel’s Project Runway rip off Under the Gunn show’s participant Brady Lange chose to feature a streetwear collection at the soiree.

In addition to the above mentioned designers, about 13 up and coming design students from the Art Institute of Portland and Aveda Institute Portland debuted their collections at the three-day-long fashion fest.

Independent designers such as Sunjin Lee, former Project Runway contestant Bryce Black, Kate Troedsson and Lizz Basinger also displayed their eclectic ranges to benefit the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

In addition to the tastefully designed runway shows, the three-day-long soiree also included a fashion pavilion, featuring more than 40 pop-up-shops selling apparel and fashion accessories from local retailers and designers.

Portland Fashion Week was founded in 2002 by philanthropist and indie fashion figure Tod Hunter Foulk, and fashion designer SaraBeth Chambers.
