The just wrapped up 20th edition of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2014 staged a variety of fashion centric shows and events across the Aussie city.

The high-end upmarket Australian department store chain opened the event with its latest racingwear and millinery collection for the spring season. Created by local designers including Ellery, the featured trackside looks included several pastel-hued, printed silk made creations replete with 1920’s inspired tailoring. The standouts were a white bell sleeved draped dress, some 1950’s style feminine full skirts, handkerchief cut blouses, cropped tops, pencil skirts and co-ordinated separates.

The collection’s menswear entries were a cobalt blue suits with contrasting flower print lapels, and a variety of shirts, pants, ties and jackets in varying shades and check patterns.

The event also featured an array of sculptural shaped pieces by designer Carly Hunter and tailored dresses with plunging necklines from Lui Hon alongside a ripped off-the-shoulder and collared lace numbers by YB J’AIME label (owned by the Korean-born fashion designer Yeojin Bae).

Also brands like Neo Dia chose to show its sheer and art-inspired print decorated creations and Manning Cartell wove magic with its smart cut-out detailed leatherwear and the LIFEwithBIRD brand opted to highlight matching perforated ensembles in bright neon hues.

In addition to the aforementioned names, the event also showcased latest activewear range from the American sportswear behemoth Nike’s newly launched exercise-cum-streetwear line Nike Tech Pack as well as yoga apparels from Canadian brand Lululemon Athletica.

Films, workshops and other fashion related events were also held on the sidelines of the catwalk heavy Melbourne soiree. (PB)
