Queen exhibits Mahatma's humble wedding gift

Queen Elizabeth II is offering a glimpse into the history by displaying a worn-yellowish rectangular 12 by 24 inches piece of cloth that was a humble wedding gift from the Great Mahatma Gandhi!
This piece of cloth, presented only weeks after India's Independence, is thought to have been spun by Gandhi himself and proudly proclaims 'Jai Hind'.
The Queen planned this event at Buckingham Palace to mark the 60th Anniversary of Independent India, which coincides with her Marriage Anniversary on 20 November 1947.
Although misunderstanding its meaning at first, the simple cloth has now become one of the cherished possessions for the Queen.
Many experts have various views for this unusual and unique gift. Several believe that this cloth was a symbolic gesture and that in reality Gandhi meant to present small share of his philosophy and ideas to Britain.
This exhibition also showcases treasures like carved ivory table from the Maharaja of Patiala, diamond and platinum necklace sent by the Nizam of Hyderabad and Grand stomacher combining diamonds from Kapurthala and the town of Swansea Crescent.
