The number of employees in the Group grew by almost 2,300 to over 23,200. Not only did the workforce in Germany expand by more than 1,200, but the number of personnel outside Germany also rose by over 1,000.
Beyond this, more than 530 new apprentices were taken on in Germany at the start of the new training year in August 2007.
In total, there were over 1,400 apprentices in Germany as of September 30, 2007. Our trainee ratio of almost 13 percent is well above the German retail sector's average of seven percent.
To ensure that shareholders also participate fairly in the Group's success, the Supervisory and Executive Boards will be proposing to the Shareholders' Meeting on March 12, 2008, that a dividend of 1.10 EUR per dividend-bearing share be paid for the 2006/07 financial year.
This would lead to approximately 43 million EUR being paid out on dividend-bearing capital of some 118 million EUR.
Capital expenditure in the Group totaled some 156 million EUR during fiscal 2006/07 following 141 million EUR the previous year.
The lion's share went towards powering the continued international growth of the Douglas perfumeries, but substantial funds were also devoted to expanding the Books division.
In total, the DOUGLAS Group opened 104 new specialty stores during the period, including 56 perfumeries, 21 bookstores and 19 Hussel confectionery shops.
A further 251 venues were added as the result of acquisition activities. All in all, the DOUGLAS Group store network comprised 1,840 locations as of September 30, 2007 (following 1,549 the previous year).
