Sperry Top-Sider joins up with Mayor's Cup

Tournament anglers demand the best out of their equipment. They want the fastest boats, the strongest rods, and the best footwear.

It made perfect sense for Sperry Top-Sider, the world's leading brand of footwear for ocean enthusiasts, to become the exclusive footwear of the world-class billfish tournament, the Sea Vee/Mercury Mayor's Cup.

“The best anglers and captains in the world fish in South Florida and fish the Mayor's Cup, “explains Tony Albelo, tournament director. “It's a natural match for the world's best shoes to be on the feet of the world's best teams.” This continues a practice of only allowing top-tier sponsors to be involved with their tournaments. “We want to make sure that we promote only the best products on the market. This is an example of that,” Albelo added.

“Top competitive anglers know that what you wear on your feet is as important as what you use for bait,” said Ken Malach, vice president, outdoor, Sperry Top-Sider. “We make shoes and performance sandals from the water up that are specifically designed to take on the challenges of sport fishing, with the best traction, support, and comfort and water compatibility available.”

The Mayor's Cup takes place this January 24-27, 2008 at Monty's in Coconut Grove, Florida.

Since 1935, Sperry Top-Sider has been the leading brand of footwear for those who love the water. From its introduction of the world's first siped rubber outsole for nonmarking traction to advanced technical fabrication to combat the elements, Sperry Top-Sider remains the vanguard of high-performance amphibious footwear and apparel.
