According to a survey by IBOPE, men are more faithful to brands and spend on average R$ 482.00 per month using their credit cards to by fashion and accessories, 15% more than women.

"We do not know where that man is exactly, which regions of the country, what age group or social class, but we do know that storeowners greatly prefer when the man does his shopping alone, without the presence of his wife or girlfriend.

In general, they spend twice as much in half the time when they choose and decide,” said Sônia Hess de Souza, coordinator for the Men's Fashion Fair (SMM) now in its 17th edition at FENIN, Gramado, which began on Tuesday the 22nd and finishes tomorrow, Friday the 25th.

During the FENIN, the SMM introduced the main trends in men's fashion and accessories for the winter of 2008.

Sponsored for the first time by Lycra and with ABIT's institutional support, the SMM is an oasis of exporters in the FENIN, where the exhibiters are more focused on the domestic market.

"More than 80% of SMM companies are exporters. For example, Dudalina exports 70% of the shirts it produces," says Sônia.

In 2006, the men's fashion segment had US$ 4.51 billion in revenues, and in 2007 it is believed to have brought in nearly US$ 5.77 billion.

"Different fabrics and finishings, as well as daring shapes and colors, are increasingly attracting the male consumer, responsible for a considerable portion of fashion business,” added Sônia.

The SMM coordinator also made a point to underscore that only Brazilian companies, with production by Brazilians and respect for the ethical principles of sustainability and social responsibility, participate in the Fair.

The launches for men were also introduced during a collective fashion show organized by SMM, on Coberta Street in downtown Gramado.
