Mandira Wirk opted for Metallic Luxe for her Autumn/Winter 2008/09 collection.
A rich metallic palette ranging from antique silvers, subdued golds, brushed brass and plated copper had been used for a young and playful collection of feminine dresses and coordinates as a subtle reference to the glamour of the roaring 80s.
The various metallic effects were explored through sequin embroideries or lurex yarn as well as lurex fabrics.
The silhouettes strongly accentuated the waist and displayed feminine and lively elements such as gathers, rushing and frills. Many skillfully executed drapes demonstrated strong sartorial skills. Balloon skirts were combined with well tailored fitted tops and cropped jackets, sometimes with eye-catching asymmetrical features such as irregular folded hems or one-sided off-shoulder necklines.
A strong focus was put to the shoulder line which had been emphasized either through cut elements such as wings or gathered layered lurex knits.
An interesting design feature was introduced through the innovative combination of fluid lurex materials with sporty almost masculine woolen mélange knits, checked cottons, classic houndstooth and subtly striped classic suit material.
Many pieces showed metallic piping and binding at seams, a smart way of highlighting important style lines in an outfit.
For Fall 2008, Mandira Wirk indicated a clear direction towards sophisticated retro glamour with an unexpected sparkle de luxe.
