Retail guru Mary Portas to appear at Summer Fair

Mary Portas, retail guru and star of BBC TV series Mary Queen of Shops, will be appearing at London home and gift show Summer Fair on the Monday afternoon of the show.

Portas will give visitors advice on retailing, following on from her hugely popular presentation at sister show Spring Fair last month.

Portas attracted a beyond-capacity crowd at Spring Fair when she appeared as the key-note speaker, giving a talk on the future of retail. Visitors could pre-register for the talk on the Monday of the show and spaces were almost instantly booked up.

To cater for demand, the presentation was shown on TV screens outside of the Future Trends Stage, where the talk was held, so that visitors crowding in the Trends Café could watch.

More than 430 visitors turned up to listen to Portas who forecast that the future of retail lay less in products and more in customer experience. “Shopping will become a leisure activity,” she said. To read more on Portas's talk at Spring Fair, click here.

Portas is considered to be a retail expert within the industry, specialising in fashion. She writes for the Telegraph, stars in her own TV series in which she helps independent retailers turn their businesses around and has written books on retailing.

Summer Fair, the design-led home and gift trade show, will be held at the Excel Centre in London from June 22 to June 25.

London's biggest presentation of home fashion & furnishings, contemporary gift and fashion accessories. Perfectly timed for Christmas buying and Spring previews.
