This year's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival is offering the public a spectacular fusion of fashion and art as it hosts its opening night event at the internationally renowned Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA).

The Official Launch Cocktail Reception & Hardy Brothers Jewellers Evening Wear Group Show will be held at GoMA where the critically acclaimed 'Picasso & his collection' exhibition has recently been unveiled for the first time outside of Europe and exclusively to Brisbane. Festival Director Lindsay Bennett said the opening night event hosted by GoMA is one of the main highlights of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival – Brisbane, hosted by Hilton, running 24 – 29 August, 2008.

“Anyone who has visited GoMA will agree it is a truly spectacular space dedicated to showcasing world class artwork to local, national and international visitors,” Lindsay said. “The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival is all about embracing and celebrating creativity and with such strong parallels existing between art and fashion we couldn't think of a more fitting venue to launch the 2008 Fashion Festival.”

The Official Launch Cocktail Reception & Hardy Brothers Jewellers Evening Wear Group Show is taking place on Sunday 24 August 2008 at GoMA. Attendees will be treated to a fabulous fashion showcase from Alex Perry, Lisa Ho, Paul Hunt and The Little Black Dress Shop, while mingling with designers, local celebrities and members of the media.

Picasso & His Collection Exhibition Details:
The exhibition of Pablo Picasso's personal art collection is being held for the first time outside of Europe and exclusively in Brisbane at GoMA from 9 June until 14 September.
The exhibition features over 100 works from Picasso's extraordinary collection plus more than 80 important works by the artist himself. A range of documentary photographs also feature.
'Picasso & his collection' includes paintings, drawings and prints by artists such as Chardin, Matisse, Renoir, Cézanne, Rousseau, Miró, Modigliani and Braque, as well as an extraordinary selection of Oceanic and African works.

This year Festival organisers expect more than 10,000 of Queensland's fashion savvy public to descend upon Hilton Brisbane to witness the best of Spring/Summer fashion.
