Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) organized a Seminar on “Latest Trends In Jewellery Hallmarking” on Monday 17th November 2008 at its Gems and Jewellery Training & Manufacturing Centre, Lahore.

The Seminar aimed to enhance the awareness of the modern trends and techniques in the participants, bringing technical expertise in them and making them capable of utilizing technology, human and financial resources effectively.

Dr. Shahzad Alam, Project Director (PITMAEM), PCSIR was the Key Note Speaker in the Seminar. Dr. Alam is a renowned figure in Assaying and Hallmarking in Pakistan.

This seminar was one of the steps by PGJDC to enhance the understanding of Assaying and Hallmarking in the Gems & Jewellery industry of Pakistan. Establishment of Assaying and Hallmarking Centres is another milestone on which PGJDC is currently working on. The idea is to build consumer confidence, discourage unfair competition, boost exports through standardization, develop brand loyalty, facilitate gold business, ensure accurate valuation of gold, and bring transparency in overall carat composition. The Company is committed to articulating such trade and mining policies to take the industry to new heights. Formulation of regulatory framework is intended to make the industry conducive for exports and to induce foreign direct investments in the country.
