Pitti Immagine is pleased to announce the first edition of “WHO IS ON NEXT? AT PITTI UOMO”, a project involving Pitti Immagine Uomo, Alta Roma and L'Uomo Vogue. It is a contest to discover new talents in men's fashion and it will be held during the 76th Pitti Uomo in June 2009.

“In Pitti Immagine's vision and its mission”, says Raffaello Napoleone, CEO of Pitti Immagine, “there is room for projects dedicated to the endeavors of young designers, or simply those who have the ability and desire to invent and transform the material of fashion. For us promoting Italian fashions also means giving an extra push to open the doors of our salons and events to the world, to work on selecting, curating and editing.

For these reasons we are grateful to Alta Roma and Vogue Italia who enthusiastically responded to our request to construct a “men's” version of WHO IS ON NEXT? together. Over the past few seasons this has proved to be one of the best international programs for promoting young designers or designers who are seeking full recognition – and we have decided to launch our project during the next edition of Pitti Uomo”.

“Men's, like women's, fashions are evolving continuously”, explains Franca Sozzani director of Vogue Italia and L'Uomo Vogue. “I believe that an event such as this one can give the new generations of designers an opportunity to revise the classic dictates of men's clothing according to new rules of modernity and innovation, and who knows – open the way for new esthetic codes. This is the philosophy that led to the concept of 'Who is on next? at Pitti Uomo'”.

“We believe in exchange and dialogue”, says Nicoletta Fiorucci, president of Alta Roma. “Together with Pitti Immagine we can do a great deal for young designers and for the fashion system. We have complementary specificities, considerable skills and resources for re-launching Made in Italy, its traditions and the essential values that have made it great.. Since 2005 with the creation of “Who is on Next?” Alta Roma has been seeking these factors among young talents”.

The WHO IS ON NEXT? AT PITTI UOMO project fits into the framework of the investments Pitti Immagine is making on the new generations in fashion and design. At Pitti Uomo they are represented by the sections such as Touch!, New Beat(s) and Welcome to my house and by special events which in recent years have featured Hedi Slimane, Hussein Chalayan, Raf Simons, Martin Margiela, Rick Owens, Kris van Assche, Adam Kimmel, Gareth Pugh's Boombox, Giles Deacon and Cassette Playa just to name a few.

The project also fits into the context of support we offer to young talents in architecture, design, photography and graphics we commission to create the settings for exhibitions and trade fairs, communications and advertising campaigns, and web design.
