Warehouse launches design competition
May 15, 2009 (UK)

The British Fashion Council (BFC) and Warehouse have launched the Warehouse Design Competition, in celebration of 25 Years of the BFC and London Fashion Week. Course tutors from many of the UK’s leading design courses, who are members of the BFC’s Colleges Council are asked to submit the strongest portfolios from this graduating year for consideration.

The winner will see pieces from their graduate collection produced and sold in up to eight Warehouse stores nationwide during September’s London Fashion Week. They will also be offered a sixth month design placement at Warehouse, post graduation. The winner will have the opportunity to work with the Warehouse development team to see their designs into production before going on to work on other projects. Two runners up will also be offered a two week work experience placement with the opportunity to have their work and profile featured on the Warehouse website.

A panel of judges including Grazia’s Style Director, Paula Reed, and Chair of the British Fashion Council’s Development Committee, Hilary Riva, will choose the winning portfolio that not only shows exceptional design ability but also encapsulates the Warehouse woman.

Hilary Riva, Chair of the British Fashion Council’s Development Committee, commented ‘The experience that this competition will give the winner is invaluable. The BFC’s Colleges Council is looking to develop more opportunities for graduates to gain experience and develop skills. I would like to thank Warehouse for launching this fantastic initiative.’

Sue Vyse, Brand Director of Warehouse, said "Warehouse is excited to be launching this competition as we are always on the look out for fresh new talent with innovative and creative ideas. We can’t wait to have the winning graduate on board to see their collection go from the design room to the shop floor."

The closing date for entries is 20th May 2009.
