Snigdha Kejriwal, Prana- Born From the Experience, The best design collection award
This summer, gear up for some super-cool trends by Pearl Academy of Fashion graduates. Portfolio, which in the past has launched quite a few of the best known names in fashion industry, again saw talented debutants showcasing their forward-looking brilliant collections. Mr. Gopal K. Pillai, Commerce Secretary, Govt. of India and Ms. Ritu Kumar, the well-known Fashion Designer presented the graduating students with awards in various categories.

Portfolio '09 was a huge success with the ramp sizzling with designer outfits worn by some of the better known models like Sonalika Sahay, Amanpreet Wahi, Krishna Somani, and Tina Chatwal of Wills Lifestyle India fashion week fame, Barkha Kaul, Jayashree Tahiliani, Sahiba Singh- Femina Miss India personality, among many others. The fantastic collections were based on themes like Anger (Krodh), Re-orienting Fashion, Hypnosis, Awadh-city of Nawabs, Life's Corona to mention a few.

Overall 54 collections were displayed on the ramp, with women's wear having a slight edge in numbers over men's wear. Every collection had a unique inspirational background varying from nomadic banjaran of kutch, Delhi's multi ethnicity, modern architecture, green leaves, geometric abstractions to magic of meditations. The students experimented with technology, non-conventional material, color palettes, silhouettes, surface texturing and fabrics in their collections.

Portfolio, which has made a name for itself as one the biggest annual events in its genre, has earned a respectable place in the calendar of the Fashion world. Fulfilling the promise of a glittering outcome, the show was hosted by the famous emcee and page 3 celebrity Ms. Ramneek Pantal. The creativity of the students was judged by an esteemed panel consisting of Kakoli Banerjee, Payal Jain, Nida Mahmood, Sunita Shankar, Sandhya Raman, Harpreet Kaur Bhatia and Tushar Bhartia. The fashion show was choreographed by Kaushik Ghosh, one of India's leading fashion model choreographer and internationally renowned model trainer.

Congratulating the young talents on their works, Dr. A.K.G. Nair, Group Director, Pearl Academy of Fashion, said, “Further punctuating PAF's commitment to nurturing and promoting new talent in the Indian fashion industry, Portfolio is a platform for our students to showcase their creativity, versatility and innovativeness through an extensive range of dresses based on various themes. Each student's collection is unique and it just shows the students dedication towards their work. I am confident that these young designers would further enhance the brand name of PAF. I wish all the students the very best in their future endeavors.”
