The first heavyweight warm-up event for this year's Taipei IN Style (TIS), International Fashion Designers Forum and Shows was held from June 2 to 4 with great success.

On June 2, two internationally famed fashion designers, Shiatzy Chen from Taiwan and Hiroko Koshino from Japan, with local fashionista Rosalie Huang as the moderator, had an enthralling dialogue in Taipei. A full house was drawn to share their views on fashion design and their commitments to fashion business. Originally open only to 200 professional people, more than 300 came for the event.

The day after the forum, Shiatzy Chen recreated in Taipei her fashion show in Paris Fashion Week earlier this year. 46 models from 10 Taiwan modeling agencies collaborated for this show, breaking the modeling business practice. Considering the venue difference and to show the most up-to-date fall/winter works, out of the 74 outfits presented, about 70% were brand new designs not seen in Paris.

Entitled “The Road of the Poetic”, the collection had its inspiration from the Silk Road, the famous historical trade routes linking Asia and Europe, with a palette of indigo blue and desert tones. The silhouettes were based on traditional Tang dynasty garment with modern touches. The brand's signature flora, cloud, and circle motifs of exquisite embroidery were always present to reinforce its classic luxury style. Experts from France were recruited to create a magnificent venue background and dazzling lighting and sound effects.More than 1,000 guests came for the show and important fashion media from Europe, China and Hong Kong were invited, giving a significant and widespread coverage on the event.

Ms. Hiroko Koshino presented her collection on June 4. Featuring unique fabrics, colorful prints and patterns, and irregular cuts, the designer's collection impressed the audience with a magical Japanese flair that was so different from Taiwanese designers'work.

Hair stylists and makeup artists from Japan transformed 25 Taiwanese models into Japanese entertainers with short eyebrows and cherry-red lips. Conveying traditional Japanese beauty with a clearly contemporary spirit and style, Koshino's designs were so appealing that some of the guests were inquiring where to buy in Taipei right away.

An unprecedented dialogue, two spectacular shows from two fashion icons in their respective country, this event would not just be the fashion talk of the town for this summer, it would surely make a subtle difference to Taiwan fashion industry by bringing new ideas, new energy, and new visions. To the new blood and young talents in the business, these two ladies also serve as role models for them to strive for.

Taipei IN Style this year will unfold from August 28 to 30 at Taipei World Trade Center. It will be a great opportunity to examine the new fashion force in this vibrant fashion city in Asia.
