Monsoon brings with it the much awaited relief from the long spell of sultry, scorching summer. However there are also the monsoon blues that one has to contend with and the cooling showers bring with them an increased susceptibility to a lot of diseases that are peculiar to the monsoon.

And nothing knows the pains attached with this season more than our feet. As the old saying goes, "When your feet hurt, you hurt all over". It is time we get our safeguards ready and gear ourselves up to face monsoon in all its full glory.

Monsoons are categorized by the humid, wet and sticky climate that they come with and this translates to sweaty feat, wet mucky shoes, fungal infections, athlete's feat and many other diseases peculiar to the disease.

These diseases can be kept at bay by keeping the following points in mind:

The Right Footwear:
• Always footwear that fits right and not too tight. Tight shoes lead to perspiration and foot diseases.
• If your wearing sneakers or shoes make sure they have porous uppers that allow your feet to breathe.
• Keep several pairs of shoes on hand and rotate shoes daily to allow them to air out.
• Flip Flops let your feet breathe and help that moisture evaporate in no time. Nike's range of fashionable Flip Flops ensure that you're keeping in tune with your style quotient whilst ensuring your feet are kept dry and clean.
• Sandals are something to be careful about. Sandals shouldn't have too much padding around the straps or else they never dry and then there's the funky smell that comes along as well. Nike's ACG (All Condition Gear) sandals are made to meet rough terrains, mud, rain and the elements with ease and are something to look forward to this season.

Keeping them cozy and clean with the right socks
• One should remember that tight socks or stockings can cramp the toes as much as poorly-fitted shoes Wrinkled socks or socks that are too large or too small, can cause blisters.
• White woolen / cotton socks may be recommended since colored socks cause skin allergies in some people. Nike's collection of white cotton socks for athletics are great for regular wear and are suited for wet and muggy days in India.
• Avoid synthetic / nylon socks that don't let your feet breathe
• At night wear loose cotton socks while going to bed.
• Wear clean socks or stockings and change them daily.

Keeping those feet of yours happy
Here is what you can do to nourish your feet:
• After you reach home, wash your legs with soap and water.
• Powder them and keep them up on a stool or centre table for sometime, to encourage the blood circulation.
• Trim toenails straight across and not too short. Do not cut into the corners.
• Before wearing your shoes or sandals, clean them thoroughly with a dry cloth to remove any fungal growth / moulds that grow in your wet leather sandals.
• Air your feet whenever possible.

This monsoon when the rains come along; get out and get wet. Just remember the all that you've read above and your feet will thank you for this extra care.
