Men make conscious decisions all day - what to eat, what to drink, where to take a date - but when faced with the decision of what to wear, many males come up short. This fall season, Tom Julian, noted trend analyst and author of Nordstrom Guide to Men's Style has partnered with perfectmatch.com, the leading online dating site to provide men everywhere the essential elements of dressing well.

Poll results from Perfectmatch.com subscribers indicate that men are torn between dressing up or dressing down on a first date with 43% of male subscribers expressing that they would pick jeans and a t-shirt while 46% would dress up for their date with a blazer. When women were asked to weigh in on the opposite sex's approach to dressing for the first date, 60% of women agreed that they would prefer men wearing a contemporary classic look by stepping out in a sport jacket with jeans and a shirt.

"We are excited to partner with top fashion expert Tom Julian to help men find fashions that are compatible with their personal style," said Duane Dahl, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Perfectmatch.com. "Just as our Duet Compatibility System analyzes the 'whole person,' taking into account each member's personality, values and ideals, life and lovestyle and preferences to identify and find the person right for them, Perfectmatch.com recognizes that good taste in clothing is a huge influencer that shouldn't be left to chance. Dressing the part can make or break opportunities - in love and in life."

With more than twenty years of industry experience working with major fashion designers, covering runway shows from New York to Milan and presiding for 14 years as the fashion authority for the official website of the Academy Awards, Oscar.com, Tom Julian maintains the expertise to help men identify a personal style that works with them, not against them. Julian begins with the basics, demystifying everything from rules to terminology, and outlines four style categories - luxury, classic, contemporary, trend - so that creating the ideal clothing collection becomes inspiring rather than intimidating.

"Different cuts and fabrics can transcend looking good to actually feeling good from nostalgic pieces to statement accessories," notes Julian. "Men may pull out random articles of clothing from their closet without noticing the fabric or pattern, but the right clothes can turn an interview into a job or a blind date into a long, lasting relationship."

Here are 5 Tips from Tom Julian and Perfectmatch.com to dress to impress on your first date:

- Tailored pieces can set the date stage with taste and tone - wear modern classics like a blazer, dress shirt and trousers.
- If denim is what makes you feel most comfortable - and when you're comfortable, you look and feel better - go with dark denim which is always dressy and contemporary.
- Keep activewear for weekend or outdoor dates.
- Put your best foot forward,shoes matter...really.
- Remember the little things do count - make sure your shirt is spot-free, your cologne is lightly dabbed, and your sock color matches your trousers.

"Perfectmatch.com is dedicated to providing our users tips on how to make a great first impression. From the body conscious to power executives to clean cut tailoring to rustic fashion, these are simple tips that can help people feel good about themselves and connect with others," noted Dahl.
