Can fashion have a positive impact on the environment? Can green clothing be sexy? Is it sustainable to create slow fashion and can second-hand be futuristic? These questions will be answered in the design contest Innovating Sustainable Fashion which has received considerable support from many quarters

Despite the financial crisis, sustainability and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) are still high on the agenda in the Danish fashion industry . The Danish business community has shown great interest in the design contest Innovating Sustainable Fashion which is centered on ethical fashion. Along with the project coordinators, the Centre for Responsible Design, CPH Vision/Terminal-2 and Designers' Nest, new partners are drawing attention to sustainable fashion.

The noted photographer Henrik Bülow and the Danish fashion magazine Cover are among the project's supporters. Henrik Bülow has agreed to shoot the concepts submitted by design students. The photos will become a part of an exhibition catalogue which contains the student concepts and the story behind the fashion contest. So far the project has received support from Aveda, Origins, the model agency Unique Models and The Danish Design Centre.

"Our sponsorship of Innovating Sustainable Fashion seemed obvious to us and represents a great opportunity to show that it is possible to be at the cutting edge of the beauty and fashion industry and still show consideration for the environment." Susanne Wildbork, Brand Manager for Origins in Scandinavia.

Aveda has also seen a link between its own mission and the concept behind Innovating Sustainable Fashion which has resulted in Aveda's sponsorship of the design contest: "Aveda is committed to environmental and social responsibility and we are thrilled to support Innovating Sustainable Fashion whose focus on sustainability is completely aligned with Aveda's 30-year mission to take care of the world we live in." Vincenzo Minore, General Manager, Aveda UK/Scandinavia.

Other supporters are the printing company Holbæk Hedehusene, the equipment company The Lab and the photo-editing will be performed by Wetouch.

The design contest will culminate in a fashion show on 2 December at Terminal-2 during the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. The primary goal of the contest is to raise awareness of sustainable design and to showcase the potential of young designers in the greener part of the fashion industry.
