Clothing retailer Roots is launching a collaboration with prominent writer & visual artist Douglas Coupland on a limited-edition clothing and accessory collection debuting July 8th and available for sale in the United States website.

The ROOTS X DOUGLAS COUPLAND collection includes apparel for women/men/children, accessories, leather goods, design items, furniture and art. This is the first time Douglas Coupland has designed fashion wearables. He is best known as the internationally best-selling author of "Generation X", "JPod" and "Generation A".

"I've never seen much difference between writing or making visual art or designing furniture or clothing." says Coupland. "It's still my brain; I'm just using different parts of it for different things."

"For the first time, we stepped back and left the design to an outside designer," explains Don Green, Co-founder of Roots. "Visually the collection is strong plus Douglas Coupland has once again shown his trademark humour and brilliance while exploring fashion."

The ROOTS X DOUGLAS COUPLAND collection launches in select Roots stores and available for sale in the United States online on July 8th.

This collection is a partnership between Roots and Douglas Coupland, with producer Chris Nanos from Radke Films and art sales by dealer Daniel Faria from Clark & Faria.

Douglas Coupland was born 1961 on a NATO base in Germany. He is the author of "Generation X" followed by twelve novels. His books are translated into 35 languages and published in most countries around the world. He is also a visual artist, furniture designer and screenwriter of his first feature "Everything's Gone Green". Douglas lives in Vancouver.

Established 1973 in Toronto, Roots has evolved into an internationally celebrated lifestyle brand. From a small store selling a single product (Roots negative-heel shoe), Roots now has 125 stores in Canada, United States and more than 40 stores in Asia. A privately held company, Roots has state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Toronto, numerous licensees, employs thousands of people in Canada and abroad.
