171 exhibitors to partake at 'Direction by Indigo' show

The market for textile designs is getting back on its feet: that's the word coming from studios participating in the Direction by Indigo shows in New York last January and April. American and European markets are coming back, and continue to be influenced by decor. The Indigo offer, whose extreme diversity makes it the show of reference in terms of textile designs, is benefiting from this beginning of a recovery. 171 exhibitors coming from 14 countries have registered for the show as of the end of June 2010, a 5% increase over September 2009. The show welcomes 15 newcomers: 6 French, 2 Belgian, 2 Americans, 1 South Korean, 1 Danish, 1 Italian, 1 Polish and 1 British.

For the past several sessions, Indigo has adopted a strategy aimed at developing forward-looking fashion information dedicated to decoration, and diffusing this information as broadly as possible. The "Influences" document brings together the future season's key themes, with a particularly rich iconography, and is addressed first to exhibitors, then made available at the Indigo fashion area. It permits buyers to familiarise themselves with the season's main decorative themes. For the first time, these patterns will be presented in large format, creating a true wall of images sweeping the fashion area and inspiring designers from all fashion universes.

With a strong representation from some 30 studios, the childrenswear market is an essential component of the show. From clothing to bed linens and wallpapers, the entire baby and children's universe finds interpretation at Indigo. In synergy with one of the Pluriel Experts Trails, the show is proposing a focus on children. At the centre of the Fashion Area will rise an elaborate "cabin," assembled from a variety of materials and inspired by play-houses and fairy tales. The interior will be illustrated with exhibitors' designs presenting the season's main trends for this market with Kid's vision. In addition, the stand signs of exhibitors participating in the "Kidswear" trail will be signalled with a pictogram, making them easier to spot.

Beyond the "Kidswear" focus, the Fashion Area will also feature the major décor influences for winter III2, which take off in three essential directions: "sensitive," which moves from away from showiness to underline the essential; "rejecting uniformity," with its desire to break down the walls and open up to different sensibilities; and "digital power", with its creative freedom. A selection of designs illustrating these major directions will be shown on the cabin's exterior walls. This will be a highly colourful space where certain designs will be mapped onto the furniture and structures to bring visitors into the essence and convictions of autumn winter II12.

Indigo pursues its partnership with the Texprint competition, which selects and sets off on their careers the best textile designers coming from British colleges, by welcoming the 24 "star designers" who are this year's winners. During the traditional awarding of the prizes, exiting president Julius Schofield will hand over his duties to Barbara Kennington (former design director of WGSN), who will replace him as the head of Texprint.

Indigo will take place from 14th to 16th September 2010 at Parc de'expositions de Paris Nord Villepinte.
