With everything from the spicy Bombay Mix to the royal gharanas of Benares inspiring the collections, 12th September the last day of Kolkata Couture Fashion Week 2010 was a riot of colours. While some designers catered to the jet-setting bride by teaming fishtail lehengas and sheer saris with strappy blouses, others went traditional with brocade cholis and Mughal motifs.

The designers included Vikram Phandis, Libas by Riyaz Gangji, Anshu Modi, Rimple and Harpreet Narula, Shweta Chhawchharia, Shobhana Choudhury and Arshi Jamal. Riyaz Gangji who was apparently supposed to do the Grand Finale of India Fashion Carnival that got indefinitely postponed was thankful to Idea Weavers for providing him the pre finale show at the eleventh hour. He did full justice to the show and mesmerized the audience with his sensual bridal pieces.

Throughout the entire Week while most of the designers showed bridal wear in the name of couture, the few who treaded the lesser popular path were Debarun, Arjun Agarwal and Komal Sood. Debarun showed a mix of Indian and western silhouettes inspired by Mumbai's chanachur. Arjun's collection drew a lot of inspiration from origami. Pleats, cowls, necklines and sleeves were exaggerated and reconstructed with drapes running around them in perfect harmony.

From short dresses to flowing gowns, from classic black to olive greens, from Victorian volume to modern chic the collection was a beautiful culmination of elegance with glamour. Komal Sood's Couture collection showed organic shapes where frills on the dresses were inspired by the folds of the flowers and marked by well placed embellishments.

Last came the Grand Finale Show by Vikram Phadnis. Though the show started 2 hours late then the scheduled show time, the public waited outside without showing any signs of frustrations. Such was their excitement that as soon as the doors opened they all ran in to grab the best seat possible. They were certainly not disappointed. The rich fragrance of chandeliers made of garlands and flowers filled the entire auditorium.

Beautiful choreography, subtle light imitating early morning, music with reverberating sanskrit chants, and beautifully crafted embroided saris & lehangas left the audience awestruck. It was a treat for all present who must have certainly went back with indelible memories of such a Grand Finale.
