Fashion loves fur – proven by the fact that for the second season in a row this lush natural fiber has been a principal trend on international runways. For next fall the big news is long-haired furs with fox, raccoon, coyote and beaver among designer favorites.

According to Diane Benedetti, Vice President of Marketing & Promotion at NAFA - North American Fur Auctions, "Now that winters are trending colder and consumers are looking for fresh new outerwear looks, designers are tapping into the rich diversity of fur types that North America offers. Our NAFA Northern label represents 14 distinctly beautiful fur types."

The designer fur offerings this season were not only diverse but also decidedly glamorous. Oscar de la Renta sent down his runway an artful mix of rich jewel colors, intricate embroidery and several NAFA fur accessories that included natural NAFA Northern red fox and raccoon. These long haired beauties proved to be a stunning counterpoint to the sophisticated knits they were paired with.

Natural furs enhanced Carolina Herrera's collection as well and some of the notable uses of NAFA fox included sleeves on a tonal wool boucle jacket, a stunning fox vest criss-crossing a white silk belted shirt and a NAFA Northern marten trim on the funnel collar of a sheath dress.

Marc Jacobs unveiled a particularly sophisticated collection for fall by combining very fitted silhouettes that were a nod to the 40's with whimsical flourishes that included chin straps, smart clutches and plenty of polka dots. The furs were carefully chosen to enhance the sassy looks and included an array of NAFA sheared beaver trims, hats, bags and jackets.

Zac Posen pared down his signature flounces this year giving his nip and tucked creations even more sexy drama. A professed lover of furs, Mr. Posen had some unique long–haired looks. One favorite was a NAFA Northern blueberry dyed coyote jacket over skinny silk trousers, another was a natural red fox vest with black dyed coyote insets.

Other designers using NAFA ranched mink and fox and NAFA Northern wild furs for fall included Bibhu Mohapatra with NAFA Northern fisher and coyote, Dennis Basso who showed NAFA Northern coyote, raccoon, marten, bassarisk and NAFA silver fox and Prabal Gurung who used NAFA mink and fox in a black, silver and white theme.

NAFA is the marketing arm of North American Fur Auctions, the direct descendant of the venerable Hudson's Bay Company that was formed in 1670. The NAFA family of quality labels identifies the superior farmed mink, fox and wild furs produced in Canada and the United States in accordance with national standards, codes and practices. The Black NAFA, NAFA Mink, NAFA Fox and NAFA Northern labels embody the very best quality furs in the world.
