Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao extended support to the handloom weavers of the state, by directing officials to formulate a comprehensive plan to revive the industry, and in the process create a market for their products. For lack of remunerative wages, handloom workers have either left the industry or are working in the powerloom sector.

At a review meeting on the handloom sector, Rao suggested as part of the plan, the government place more orders for uniforms for school children, police and hospitals.

He also said that subsidy on yarn could also be extended, while providing skill based training for handloom workers, seeking alternative professions. (AR)
