The percentage decrease in garment exports during July- May 2019-20 was, however, little greater than the nearly 18 per cent decline in overall exports from Bangladesh during the same period.
Category-wise, knitwear exports fell 18.74 per cent to $12.743 billion in the first eleven months of fiscal 2019-20 that ends on June 30, as against exports of $15.682 billion during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, as per the data.
Likewise, exports of woven apparel decreased 19.22 per cent to $12.965 billion during the period under review, compared to exports of $16.051 billion during July-May 2019-20.
Woven and knitted apparel and clothing accessories’ exports together accounted for 83.04 per cent of $30.959 billion worth of total exports made by Bangladesh during the July-May period.
In the last fiscal ending June 30, 2019, garment exports from Bangladesh crossed the $34-billion mark.
Meanwhile, home textile exports (Chapter 63, excluding 630510) declined 16.22 per cent to $670.97 million during the eleven-month period under review, compared to exports of $800.85 million during the comparable period of the previous fiscal.
