Readymade garment exports from Bangladesh decreased by 5.71 per cent in the first seven months of current fiscal 2019-20 to $19.063 billion compared to exports of $20.217 billion in the corresponding months of the previous year, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau. The percentage decrease in garment exports during July- January 2019-20 was greater than 5.21 per cent decline in overall exports from Bangladesh during the same period.Category-wise, knitwear exports fell 5.13 per cent to $9.620 billion in the first seven months of fiscal 2019-20, as against exports of $10.140 billion during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, as per the data.
Likewise, exports of woven apparel decreased 6.29 per cent to $9.443 billion during the period under review, compared to exports of $10.076 billion during July-January 2019-20.

Woven and knitted apparel and clothing accessories’ exports together accounted for 83 per cent of $22.919 billion worth of total exports made by Bangladesh during the July-January period.
In the last fiscal ending June 30, 2019, garment exports from Bangladesh crossed the $34-billion mark.
