Among the Asian countries, imports from China stood at 1,487.773 billion yen ($13.57 billion), showing a decline of 12.9 per cent year-on-year, the data showed.
During April-March 2020-21, Japan imported apparel and accessories worth 132.506 billion yen ($1.21 billion) from the EU, down 20.9 per cent year-on-year. The Far Eastern country also imported 8.216 billion yen ($74.94 million) worth of clothing and accessories from the US, down 35.1 per cent.
Meanwhile, the value of Japan’s import of textile yarn and fabrics shot up by 37.4 per cent year-on-year to 1,273.338 billion yen ($11.61 billion) during the period under review. A bulk of these imports valued at 1,190.683 billion yen ($10.86 billion) were supplied by the countries in the Asian region, with China alone accounting for 883.454 billion yen ($8.06 billion), while imports from Asean nations stood at 202.496 billion yen ($1.85 billion).
Japan imported yarn and fabric worth 44.449 billion yen ($405.44 million) from the EU countries, whereas its imports from the US were valued at 18.622 billion yen ($169.86 million) during the twelve-month period.
