The Liberia Chamber of Commerce (LCC) and the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) West Africa ASSESS Project recently conducted a workshop in Monrovia covering benefits of the US African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), product eligibility criteria, documentation and export procedures, and US import requirement for agricultural products.

The workshop highlighted the broader objective of AGOA, approved by the US Congress in May 2000 to raise trade between the United States and participating African countries.

Participants included those from the ministry of commerce and industry, the Liberia Revenue Authority and the National Investment Commission, according to Liberian media reports.

The law provides duty-free preferences for thousands of products manufactured and processed throughout the region. Liberia in 2006 signed as a key shareholder in the trade domain. The workshop ended on April 17. (DS)
