To revive the traditional Jute industry, West Bengal Government plans to set up a jute park in the state.
All possible help will be forwarded in setting up the proposed park, with provision for infrastructural support in order to expand and develop the industry, official sources said.
The Jute industry in the state stagnated as diversification into varied products was not carried out.
The industry at present is surviving mainly on manufacturing of jute bags used for packaging, the sources said.
Jute Manufacturers' Development Council (JMDC), West Bengal Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBIDC) and Indian Jute Mills Association (IJMA), will jointly set up the 365 acre park an estimated investment of Rs 35.5 crore.
The development funds is proposed to be raised mainly through a central grant of Rs 26.22 crore.
Other funding sources would be equity capital, private sector contribution and term loan.
The proposed park would be established in 55 acre land.
It will have supporting infrastructures like common information technology centre, administrative services centre, a quality testing laboratory, training centers and tool rooms, a design and product development centre and a common effluent treatment plant, the sources elaborated.
