Self-repairing fabrics to be the future of fashion

It is the era of smart. Intelligent materials like self-repairing fabrics that can fix small tears and holes by themselves will be the future of the textile and fashion world. This was shared by Samson Khaou, MD, Dassault Systèmes, a French company providing 3D design and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions.

Khaou told Fibre2Fashion, “The world will shift from smartphones to smart material by 2030. They will be used in many products – not just clothes - from mobile phone screens to nail varnish and shoes.”

Discussing the future of production he said, “Unlike much of today's manufacturing, customised clothing will probably be made in the country it is ordered, or even in-store.”

According to Khaou, the next two decades will change the retail sector drastically. “The advent of innovations such as delivery drones, 3-D printers and virtual mirrors are set to alter the way we shop. Soon, customers will also be tailoring their purchases using detailed 3-D screens – either holographic, or ones that appear flat with CGI graphics,” he added.

Dassault Systèmes’ 3DExperience platform and industry solution experiences for consumer goods and retail provides a unified digital environment including powerful PLM and 3D applications to improve the end-to-end business processes behind a company’s collections. In India, companies like Arvind Lifestyle Brands Limited, Mohan Clothing (Blackberry), Myntra and Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd have collaborated with Dassault Systèmes. (HO)
