Amazon, the world’s biggest online retailer is opening its ninth fulfilment centre in Texas in Coppell, which is expected to provide employment to more than 1,000 people. Amazon had earlier announced setting up of a fulfilment centre, which is under construction in Houston. The seven operating fulfilment centres in Texas currently employ around 10,000 people.
This will be the third Coppell based facility, with other fulfilment centres located in Haslet, Dallas, Fort Worth, Schertz and San Marcos. Amazon employees at the new one million-square-foot Coppell fulfilment centre will pick, pack and ship smaller customer items.
The first Coppell fulfilment centre began operations in 2013 and the second facility was launched during the holiday shopping season in 2016.
“This building will be a new addition to the Amazon Robotics fulfilment network, which already has a robust presence in Coppell,” Amazon’s vice president of North American Operations, Akash Chauhan said. “We are proud of our ability to create jobs, spur innovation and provide excellent Prime service to members.” (AR)
