Clothing sales witnessed a rise in all segments with the womenswear segment alone accounting for more than two-thirds of all apparel sales, during the month.
Womenswear sales increased by 0.5 per cent year-on-year to 116,105 million yen, followed by menswear which rose by 2.8 per cent to 39,077 million yen, and children's wear which increased by 3.9 per cent to 11,371 million yen. The sales of other garments also rose by 5 per cent to 12,733 million yen.
The association said that sales at its member stores across Japan increased for the seventh consecutive month in October to 497,472 million yen, up 4.2 per cent year over year. The department stores saw an increase in sales for the first time in five months in all the five major categories—apparel, accessories, household goods, sundries and cosmetics, and food. (RKS)
