Clothing tops 'click and collect' online buying: Report

Clothing and footwear have the highest penetration in the ‘click and collect’ service with 23.5 percent of total online shoppers and 46.5 percent of total click and collect users frequently using the service, according to a latest report.
 
A new report by retail analyst Verdict states that click and collect purchases would grow by more than two-thirds to be worth over £4 billion by 2018.
 
According to the report, while the click and collect growth would be rapid, it would still only be around 8 percent of the total online sales. The growth would be tempered by improvements to other fulfillment options as home delivery companies and online retailers are monitoring the development of the click and collect purchases and are reacting accordingly.
 
Verdict survey data shows that Marks and Spencer is the retailer with the greatest click and collect penetration with its online shoppers. A third of the respondents of the survey who had bought online from M&S said that they had used its click and collect at least once.
 
These results validate the retailer’s decision to invest in the service, providing dedicated collection points within the stores and offering short lead times between ordering and availability for collection.
 
 The report also states that of the 10 retailers with highest click and collect penetration, all the retailers offered the service for free, with seven retailers offering collection within one day of ordering and six retailers giving the service importance on their website’s front page. 
 
The survey also said that females are more likely to pick up online purchases from stores than men. 
 
The ‘click and collect’ service allows customers to have their order delivered to a local store for free, from where they can collect it at their own time.
