Local cooperatives also get a push from the academic sector. To complement DTI’s SSF program, the University of the Philippines’ Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-enterprise Development (ICOPED) has offered its expertise in providing training to the cooperatives such as financial and operations management in cooperatives, personnel training, and skills development, among others.
Initially, the equipment will be placed in cooperative’s training center to get embroiders acquainted with the new machines and to train people who want to work in the embroidery business.
After expanding its production, LEAMPC is eyeing to go global.
“With the assistance of DTI, we hope we could reach the export market in the future, and establish our cooperative as a producer of world class fashion garment,” Marivic said.
With plans of expansion in mind, Marivic wishes that next year they can double their outputs and employ more people in their municipality.
LEAMPC’s goals are as vibrant as its fancifully embroidered products, and with their member’s sheer craftsmanship and effort, plus adequate support from government agencies such as DTI, it will be possible for them to reach their success and become one of the globally competitive industries in the country.
