Nuance-Watson (Hong Kong) has launched a “Product Authentication” kiosk at its Travelcare Express gate store at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). The kiosk allows customers to track selected products through critical points in the production line and thereby check them for authenticity simply by scanning the products' RFID label. Nuance-Watson (Hong Kong) is the first airport retailer in Asia to roll out this pilot project of “Product Authenticity Solution”.
The Product Authentication solution provides consumers with a convenient and reliable way to distinguish counterfeits from genuine products. The solution is based on an automatically generated secure “VerCode” which is unique to each individual product item. To verify a product's authenticity, consumers simply input the “VerCode” hidden under a label on the item they want to check. This can be done directly by logging on to barcodeplus.com.hk.
According to GS1 Hong Kong, the Product Authenticity Solution (funded by the HKSAR Government) is designed to offer consumers a convenient and reliable way to authenticate products through the internet or via SMS, ensuring the products they purchase are genuine. While it is useful to consumers, it also provides the retailer with a trusted channel to deliver product quality information to consumers and at the same time protects the integrity of retailers and brands from the threat of counterfeit products.
In response to the ever-increasing consumer interest in health products, brand integrity and authenticity is the key to ensure total customer satisfaction. Nuance-Watson (Hong Kong) has chosen the “Travelcare Express” personal care store as the retail point to introduce this added customer service coupled with the support of health product brands Comvita and Po Sum On Medicine.
Alessandra Piovesana, Regional Managing Director of Nuance-Watson (Hong Kong) said: “We are glad to be the first airport retailer in Asia to pilot run the Product Authentication project. Nuance-Watson (Hong Kong) is committed to offering travellers the ultimate in shopping pleasure with satisfaction guaranteed. With this innovative Product Authentication solution and interactive RFID kiosks, travellers will be able to purchase with complete confidence at Hong Kong International Airport.”
After this initial launch, Nuance-Watson (Hong Kong) will review and consider further roll-out to more stores at HKIA. In the long run, the company hopes to see the Product Authentication solution helping to sustain the confidence of consumers and safeguard Hong Kong's reputation as a shoppers' paradise.
