The agreement was signed by Lakshman Jayaweera, chairman of BOI, and Dayantha de Silva, managing director of S&D Associates, a company specializing in the manufacturing of industrial chemicals used in the textile industry, as well as polymers for textile processing, coatings and water treatment operations.

As per the agreement, the new plant would come up at the BOI Export Processing Zone at Biyagama, Gampha district, in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. The company will initially employ about 100 staff, including 25 highly skilled local and overseas chemical engineers and industrial chemists at the plant.

Dayantha de Silva said it would be the first time in Sri Lanka that a company would be manufacturing the complete range of products required for textile processing and wet processing of garments.

He said the company has offices in Maldives, Bangladesh and Vietnam, and buyers in Dubai, India and Oman, which would greatly benefit Sri Lanka’s local textile industry and contribute in making Sri Lankan garments more competitive in the global market.

He added that the aim of the company is to become a leading manufacturer of textile axillaries, polymers, dispersing aids and polymeric coatings for different substrates in the region.
