The number of males in the labour force in Q1 2024 was 48.45 million, while the number of females was 25.30 millio, according to the quarterly Labour Force Survey released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The number of employed also increased to 71.16 million in the quarter compared to 71.10 million in the same quarter last year; the number of employed males rose to 46.71 million, while that of employed females population slightly declined to 24.45 million.
The number of unemployed remained unchanged in Q1 2024 with 2.59 million and the unemployment rate was 3.51 per cent.
The number of unemployed males in Q1 2024 was 1.74 million, while the total number of such females was 0.85 million, according to domestic media outlets.
In the quarter, some 48.26 million people—11.68 million males and 36.58 million females—remained out of the labour force.
The labour force participation rate in the quarter was 60.45 per cent—the male participation was 80.58 per cent, while for females, it was 40.89 per cent.
