The country’s overall inflation rate surged to 9.52 per cent in August, which is the highest in the past 10 years. While non-food inflation was 9.98 per cent in November, it was 9.96 per cent in December, according to BBS data on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), Inflation Rate, and Wage Rate Index (WRI) in Bangladesh.
The WRI in Bangladesh for December soared to 7.03 per cent, which is an increase of 0.05 percentage points compared to the November wage rate index. The growth in wage is 1.68 percentage points lower when compared to the inflation rate. This decrease points towards the reduction in the purchasing power of wage earners in the last month.
Additionally, Bangladesh’s moving average inflation of the last 12 months touched 7.70 per cent, while the same for the 12 months in 2021 was 5.54 per cent.
