The train took about 4 days to reach Laos’ capital Vientiane, thus reducing the transportation time from Hunan to ASEAN countries by over two-thirds as compared to roadway, according to Chinese media reports.
The first overseas 1,035 km railway line jointly constructed and operated by China and Laos connects Kunming in Yunnan Province with Vientiane. It also facilitates China’s exports to Myanmar, Thailand and Singapore.
The line, inaugurated on December 3, 2021, already witnessed about 116 cargo trains as of January 3, thus successfully transporting over 49,800 tonnes of goods amounting to 676 million yuan (approximately $106 million), as per the data released by Kunming Customs.
