China’s producer price index (PPI)—measurement of costs for goods at the factory gate—has dropped 2.5 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in September 2023. This decline is a moderation from the 3 per cent fall witnessed in August and the 4.4 per cent drop in July.The average PPI for January–September 2023 decreased by 3.1 per cent YoY, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The index saw a minor uptick of 0.4 per cent on a monthly basis in September, up from the 0.2 per cent increase recorded in August 2023.
