Supported by Conscious Fashion Campaign in collaboration with United Nations Office for Partnerships, a series of podcasts is inviting experts and passionate people to join the conversation. The campaign champions fashion as an influential sector to address world’s most pressing issues and to drive the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Conscious Fashion Campaign seeks to inspire worldwide prominent fashion industry tradeshows, fashion weeks, conferences and speaker series to implement responsible marketing, operations and logistics that are mindful of social, economic and environmental impact.

To achieve the 2030 agenda the Conscious Fashion Campaign, founded by Kerry Bannigan, urges industry event leaders to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals into their business models, incorporate circular production solutions, highlight key innovations and facilitate knowledge share.

The Conscious Fashion Campaign commits to actively support the Decade of Action and Delivery for Sustainable Development by bridging the gap between the United Nations and global major fashion events to enable the Sustainable Development Goals to scale and create multi-stakeholder partnerships with concrete strategies for action.

“We are delighted to be part of this new podcast,” Fiona O’Malley, director of communications and fundraising for World Vision Ireland, said. “The fast fashion industry emits 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year. We have seen a huge global growth in mass production, mass disposal of clothes, with more than 150 billion garments now produced annually. This puts huge environmental pressure on our planet. The podcast will explore issues like how to buy more sustainably; why supporting charity shops and second-hand stores is the way forward; what sustainable textiles to look out for if you’re buying something new like cotton, linen, and wool; how to love your wardrobe and make your clothes last, and how the future of fashion could look like post-Covid19.”

Together with 25 partners across 15 countries, World Vision Ireland and the Irish Environmental Network are part of Make Europe Sustainable for All, a three year EU-funded project that aims to raise awareness and promote action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year’s campaign #WardrobeChange calls for radical transformation of the textile industry.

“The Conscious Fashion Campaign is proud to support Make Ireland Sustainable For All as we look to showcase what solutions can and are being adopted to mitigate the impact of Covid-19. ‘Wardrobe Change: Reimagining Fashion’ aligns with our mission for industry stakeholders to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals into their business models, incorporate circular production solutions, highlight key innovations and facilitate knowledge sharing. As a sector we need to creatively collaborate more than ever before and commit to how we are going to build back better together,” said Bannigan.

The United Nations Office for Partnerships serves as a global gateway for catalysing and building multi-stakeholder partnerships to advance the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNOP provides a platform for effective partner engagement and works to leverage the assets and expertise of a broad range of partners in furtherance of the SDGs. As a member of the UN Fashion Alliance and the advisor to the Conscious Fashion Campaign, UNOP facilitates awareness, advocacy and engagement to achieve the SDGs within the fashion and textile industry.
