STeP is a comprehensive certification system for companies along the textile chain. It covers areas such as the management of chemicals, environmental performance, environmental management, health and safety, social responsibility and quality management.
Schellenberg has invested in systems to recycle waste water and to recover heat from waste water and exhaust air. The company uses energy-saving machines, equipment and has switched to natural gas operation to stay environmentally friendly.
The certification will also provide Schellenberg with the Made in Green label, which will help end consumers identify that its fabrics are sustainable throughout the value chain.
“Our goal is to achieve the finishing (pre-treatment, dyeing, printing and final treatment) of knitted fabrics to the highest ecological and social conditions. STeP enables us to monitor the entire textile value chain as opposed to only being able to look at a single section at a time,” said Urs Schellenberg, CEO, Schellenberg. (HO)
