The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has recommended improved mechanisation, especially for harvests, to improve production and reduce labour costs in cotton fields across Turkmenistan, yielding an increase in economic returns and making the country more competitive in global markets. It recently organised an online workshop to discuss the issue.

Experts from the ministry of agriculture and forestry of Turkiye and the ministry of agriculture and environmental protection of Turkmenistan participated in the workshop, the FAO office in Turkiye said in a press release.

Cotton plays an important role in the economy of Turkmenistan.

FAO national correspondent in Turkmenistan Berdi Berdiyev stressed on the importance of the cooperation agreement signed with Turkiye’s Cotton Research Institute that aims to facilitate the transfer of Turkish experience in cotton mechanisation to Turkmenistan.
