The Karnataka government has identified 100 acre of land at Tandavapura Industrial Area to set up a textile park. The development comes in the heels of the government allocating Rs 300 core in the state budget for development and setting up of textile parks across Karnataka.

"For the development of textile parks across the state, 2,600 acres of land has been identified. In Mysuru and Chamarajanagar, where Textile Parks are also proposed, we have identified land. At the recent Invest Karnataka meet, investors have come forward to invest over Rs 1,000 crore," Karnataka Handlooms and Textile Commissioner R Raju said after inaugurating Special Handloom Expo Samskruthi-2016 in Mysuru.

Raju said the 2013-2018 textile policy would benefit weavers. The policy envisages Rs 10,000 crore of investment in five years and employment to 5 lakh people. Karnataka has 80,000 handlooms and 1.5 lakh active power looms and the department has managed to train over 26,000 people.

A total of 140 participants at the expo have put on display their products, including summer wear and clothing materials from different states. (SH)
