  • Kasturi cotton, with less than 2 per cent trash content, would also address the problem of contamination.
  • Launched three months ago, it features superior moisture content and fibre strength, with a 29-30 mm staple length.
  • At Bharat Tex 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today discussed its benefits and premium pricing with farmers and ginners.
Kasturi cotton, whose production started only three months ago, will have trash content of less than two per cent compared to over three per cent in normal Indian cotton. “Once you start addressing trash, you also start addressing contamination. Slowly, we will get contamination-free cotton,” Dr. Siddhartha Rajagopal, executive director of The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL), which is implementing Kasturi cotton scheme in India, told Fibre2Fashion at the ongoing Bharat Tex 2024.

Kasturi cotton has better quality/parameters in terms of moisture content, strength of fibre, etc. Staple wise it is 29-30 mm.

Rajagopal apprised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted today with farmers and ginners at the Sustainability Pavilion. They explained to Modi that there are advantages of growing Kasturi cotton as it gets reasonable premium price by following good practices.

“The story (of Kasturi cotton) has begun, so slowly there will be momentum,” Dr. Rajagopal told F2F.
