The Kenyan government is set to restore Rivatex, a textile manufacturing company wholly owned by the Moi University for commercial and research purposes, to create job opportunities for youth, according to Kenyan media reports.

The government will be spending KSh 600 million to revive the factory said Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Kenya, during the launch of Uasin Gishu County infrastructure machines in Eldoret town.

William Ruto, deputy president, said that the revival of Rivatex was a confirmation that the Kenyan government is committed to creating jobs for the youth and women.

In the past, Rivatex used to consume about 2,800 tonnes of cotton and 550 tonnes of polyester/viscose to produce more than 15 million metres of fabric per annum. The company held a reputation for producing the best quality fabrics in East Africa before the collapse. (HO)
