Twenty young Myanmarese entrepreneurs will visit China under a scholarship in June to study textile and garment manufacturing technologies, according to the Myanmar Textile Manufacturers’ Association (MTMA). China’s Guangxi Economic and Trade Vocational Institute, Myanmar’s industry ministry and MTMA jointly launched the programme on March 28 in Yangon.

The Chinese institute will offer a full scholarship, covering accommodation, food and course fees, said MTMA chairman U Tin Myo Win.

More batches will be sent to China later to learn cotton ginning, weaving, thread painting, sketching and design, according to a report in a Myanmarese daily.

Entrepreneurs from towns outside Yangon like Shwebo and Monywa will be given priority, said Myo Win.

A memorandum of understanding signed by the three stakeholders for the scholarship also entails free courses on weaving, cotton ginning and thread dyeing for Myanmarese professionals at the Chinese institute. (DS)
