Surat floods have caused great deal of destruction to the diamond hub of the country.

Now, however, the list of ruins incorporates the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Museum, where most antiques are wrecked.

This is the second blow for Gujarat after the Kutch Museum in Bhuj was demolished by the 2001 eathquake.

Among all, the 300 year old magnificent fabric is the greatest loss.

Other textile losses include the renowned, one-of-the-kind, relic of 'Kinkhaab' fabric collection that suffered irreparable damage.

Kinkhaab or himru cloth is a blend of cotton and silk weave and was popular in Aurangabad as the Muslims were not allowed to wear pure silk.

This glorious fabric was also made from an exceptional type of zari called Kasab where silver and gold metals were combined with chaste silk.

Museum had a total of 50 clothes of Surat's last Nawab Abdullah Khan made from Kinkhaab.

In 1850, Mumbai became a major port and weavers of Surat stopped making Kinkhaab, as there was hardly any market here for the expensive materials, which were priced around Rs250-300 per yard during the 17th and 18th centuries.
