BP, one of the largest purified terephthalic acid (PTA) producers from UK, is in troubles. One of its plant located in Geel, Belgium, is under shut down since Monday, as 71 operators walked off the facility, putting a halt to the plant operation.
Official sources from BP informed Fibre2fashion, “Strike is all about for the merger of two different control rooms of the PTA plant into a single control room. This effort of the company will increase the production capacity. The plant has two production units of 350,000 mt per year and 650,000 mt per year. However, negotiation is going on between 70 operators and Management.”
“Project of De-bottle-necking is also planned in the same plant, which is going to start in last quarter of 2008. Current production capacity of the facility is 1,000,000 ton per year and after expansion, it will reach 3,600,000 ton per year.” conveyed the source.
