Hansiba of STFC unveils 'Varakh collection'

Hansiba, the flagship brand of Sewa Trade Facilitation Center (STFC) unveiled the premium “Varakh collection”. Ms. Isabel Guerrero, Country Director, World Bank was present to grace the occasion.

Hansiba signifies the rich embroideries, the traditional skill and heritage of the rural women artisans. The owners of Hansiba are these very rural women artisans themselves, who are the shareholders of STFC.

Every Hansiba creation is painstakingly embroidered by the rural artisans of STFC for whom craft is the only source of income and livelihood.

Designed by design studio of STFC, the collection takes its inspiration from traditional embroideries of Gujarat and comprises of evening wear and sarees. The surfaces of the garments are covered meticulously to create stimulating textures on sensuous fabric.

Each of the garments has undergone a process, which is completely hand made, be it dyeing, bandhani, printing or the embroidery. The collection is eco friendly and the threads used in manufacturing are vegetable dyed. The embellishments are biodegradable, offering a product that's environment friendly, without compromising on the quality. This exclusive collection works beautifully for every special event and layers perfectly over the main range for a more casual vibe.

Speaking on the occasion Ms. Isabel Guerrero, Country Director, World Bank said, “I have been a longtime admirer of the work being done by SEWA. This is a new phase in the exploration to find activities for the women in SEWA to improve their livelihoods. Joining community based products with high-end design is an inspiring vision for the future.”

The aim of Hansiba is to see that more and more income goes directly into the hands of the artisans – the owners of this brand. This is how the rural artisans/ produce will also benefit from India's new economic growth, Reema Nanavaty, Chairperson of STFC.

According to Gauriben Brahmin master craftsperson and shareholder of STFC, “we had the traditional embroidery skills, but “Hansiba” is now bringing our skills to the market, helps us understand the market. Hansiba- is preserving our traditional skills, strengthening our livelihoods and improving quality of life.

Today “Hansiba” is innovating the market by bringing a special collection using herbal dyes, organic cotton and traditional skills-“Varakh”. I am hopeful “Hansiba” will ensure livelihood security to thousands of my artisan sisters.”

The limited edition Varakh Collection is available at the Hansiba boutique.
