A two-day meeting of the Kerala Khadi Board Employees Association will be held in Kottayam on July 2-3 to discuss various problems faced by more than 10,000 women workers of the khadi sector.
The meeting is expected to discuss various issues that are currently being faced by the khadi sector including non-availability of raw materials, reduction in export duty on cotton, increase in prices, and stoppage of rebate on khadi by the Centre.
Rural economy is to a great extent influenced by the Khadi Board and hence, the meeting is also expected to deliberate on the situation that may arise after the Prime Minister's Employment Guarantee Programme comes to an end in 2012. It is also expected that the meeting will discuss on the 35 percent subsidy scheme for Rs 25 lakh project, which is also likely to end soon.
