China's exports of home textiles during the first five months of current year were valued at US$ 7.47 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 12.3 percent. This growth rate was about 12 percentage points less than last year.

While the total volume of exports declined 4.6 percent, its average export price increased 17.7 percent during the period.

The volume of home textiles exports to the United States was US$ 1.98 billion, which was a year-on-year increase of 3.9 percent. Compared to this, however, the volume of exports to the EU and Japan were US$ 1.44 billion and US$ 1.06 billion, showing an increase of 11.25 percent and 31.8 percent respectively.

The increase in the volume of exports to the US is significantly low compared to more than 30 percent growth registered last year, pointing towards a pessimistic market outlook.

Similarly, the volume of exports to the EU has also slowed down compared to over 20 percent growth registered in 2010. However, in terms of overall growth, the EU market seems to be the most stable for Chinese home textiles among the three top markets.

China's exports to the Japanese market were at low levels in 2010, but after the March 2011 earthquake, the demand has increased significantly.
